Plans for 2024
More reading, less writing
Happy New Year!
I wish you good health and happiness in a year of exciting new adventures and important accomplishments. I hope you have ambitious plans for 2024 and that all your goals are met. May the world around us also find the peace and love that is sadly missing in so many places. Let’s hope we can all contribute to making that happen. There are important issues not to be ignored.
Meanwhile, our journey together in reading and writing continues in 2024. I hope you find that it provides an opportunity for calm consideration of different perspectives on people, places, and issues that we might not otherwise experience or understand.
My own plans this year include more reading than writing. I will be focused on the priorities of publishing three more Dale Hunter Thriller novels – BAD BOYS IN BOSTON, CRASH LANDING and WHATEVER IT TAKES. The planning and preparation to achieve more effective marketing and promotion for those book launches will take up most of my time and energy.
However, I will find the time to work through my reading list and the pile of books filling all the available space in my office. Not just the bookshelves! I discovered over the holidays that it’s a pleasure to expand my reading choices beyond the usual suspects in the genre of crime thrillers, mystery & suspense, action & adventure. Those are the best reference sources for my Dale Hunter Series and I’ve already stolen all the good ideas, tips, and tricks that I found there from my favourite model writers – Kathy Reichs, Robert Crais, Ian Rankin, John Grisham, David Baldacci,  and Canadians – Ian Hamilton, Rick Mofina and Linwood Barclay. Thank you!
I recommend them all. And if you can suggest others that I should read, please let me know who you recommend.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying a wide variety of genres and writers – short stories, literary fiction, history, finance and economics. I’m developing a new appreciation of good writing and a keen ability to distinguish quality from trash, as well as learning to pay more attention to the choice of words in every sentence and paragraph and in the editing and proofreading of my own writing.
