Reading & Writing – My books and more.

Reading & Writing

My books and more for your reading pleasure

Fortunately, the daily newspaper is still being delivered and giving me something to read, but the Postal strike in Canada is severely limiting my magazine junkie habits! So I’m scouring my reading basket and piles of books to be read – not finding much that’s very appealing.

I have lots of books from authors I’ve met who generously offered free copies of their books while I tried to be more supportive and actually paid for some of them. I’ve made some new friends and always learn from my fellow writers, but just between you and me, … I’ve read enough psychological and domestic thrillers to be at risk of going psycho myself!

I’ve had more fun reading collections of short stories and the old pulp fiction detective classics, as well as few literary novels that don’t make the pop fiction bestseller lists, but are useful models of better writing and demonstrations of the skills of the masters of the craft.

How about you? Do you have a regular reading habits? Daily newspapers, inspirational thoughts for the day, self-help manuals, or comic strips and cartoons? When you want to get lost in a good story, do you have a go-to author or type of novel you prefer? Are you reading anything outside the list of the most popular best-selling authors like Canadian crime writer, Louise Penny, and the internationally recognized Americans who dominate crime fiction – like John Grisham, James Patterson, and David Baldacci – that  I see poolside, on the beach, in departure lounges, and on airplanes everywhere I go?

While we’re both looking for something interesting, let me remind of what’s new in my Dale Hunter Thriller Series. (Did you notice that smooth segue into my sales pitch? ???? Sorry, it’s prime book selling and new-reader hunting season. Please buy a book or two for your Holiday reading! Any one of mine or maybe another Canadian Crime Writer you haven’t met yet.
