Looking Back & Planning Ahead

Happy New Year!

Have a great 2021 in the brave new post-Covid world

Looking Back & Planning Ahead

(An update for readers, friends and fans of the Dale Hunter Series of crime thriller novels.)

So 2021 has finally arrived, now what?  It seems the same as 2020 so far, maybe worse in many ways – both the pandemic and the politics. The battles are not over and the “new normal” is not here yet. But it’s still a good time to look back and plan ahead for readers and for writers.

First, let’s look back. What did you accomplish reading and writing in 2020?

As a reader, my highlights and recommendations for books to discover are:

Crime fiction: my fellow Canadian Crime Writers, Linwood Barclay, Ann Lambert and Dave Butler; and the internationally acclaimed John Farrow (Trevor Ferguson), Robert Crais, Harlan Coben and Ian Rankin. Have you read Elevator Pitch, The Noise Downstairs, The Birds That Stay, The Dogs of Winter, Full Curl, No Place for Wolverines, River City, City of Ice, The Monkey’s Raincoat, SUSPECT, Don’t let Go, or A Song for the Dark Times?  They’re excellent!

Non-fiction: Barack Obama’s, The Promised Land, for political perspectives of the former President and Phil Knight’s, Shoe Dog, the entrepreneurial story of Nike, starting with a $100 loan from his father in the 1970s to building a $Billion multi-national corporation, forty years later.  Both books are inspiring and insightful.

As a writer, I switched to my business projects at the beginning of the year and published 2020 Editions of my two books for entrepreneurs, The Complete Do-It-Yourself Guide to Business Plans and DON’T DO IT THE HARD WAYLearn How to Avoid the Seven Biggest Mistakes that Entrepreneurs Make. Visit: LearningEntrepreneurship.com to learn more.

For the Dale Hunter Series, I am currently working on novel #4, BAD BOYS IN BOSTON. You may have seen the first five chapters of an early draft that I sent with my newsletter in December. You can still review a copy in the attached .pdf file at: BAD BOYS IN BOSTON. Or go to BookFunnel to download a copy at: First Five Chapters. Feedback from readers is always appreciated and will help me write a better book for future readers.

Now let’s look ahead.

I am now working on the second draft manuscript of BAD BOYS IN BOSTON for review by two experienced professional crime fiction editors, one Canadian and one American. The first Advance Reader Review copies should be available in May for publication of the novel in the fall or early 2022.

Other works in process this year are a collection of short stories currently titled, Snapshots from Home, some memoir and some creative fiction, and novel #5, CRASH LANDING, taking us back to the 1980s computer business. I also have plans for additional business writing in collaboration with other expert writers and business commentators.

My plans for the year include more frequent updates for readers, friends and fans in Blog posts on my website, social media posts and newsletter updates like this on.  Thank you for your continued interest and support.

I wish you and your family, friends and associates, a safe and entirely boring, but satisfying and peaceful, New Year,

Del Chatterson
