Oh Canada!
Let’s celebrate Canadian Writers
On the occasion of Canada Day and the 159th Anniversary of the Dominion of
Canada, let’s celebrate Canadian writers who give a damn and write with a purpose. They may be crime writers, novelists, journalists, screenwriters or songwriters, but they write not just to tell a story or sell a few books, but to share stories that make a difference.
They believe that words matter and that sharing stories may start an exchange of ideas, information, and inspiration that will change attitudes and behaviour for the better.
I introduced the subject in my article at https://delvinchatterson.com/why-do-writers-write/ and explained how David Baldacci and Louise Penny are willing to include messages on social and political issues in their novels and to speak up publicly in support of social justice, freedom, democracy, and human rights.
They are not alone and I support their efforts on protecting freedom of expression, a free press, and uncensored media and the published or broadcast work of writers. We all need to support writers, libraries, bookstores, teachers and institutions that will advance literacy and education as the necessary foundation for protection of our global rights to freedom and democracy.
Please help us find more writers, Canadian, American or international, who are making a difference and share their message. Give them a shout-out and let me know who you think should be on the Honour Roll for great writers who write with a purpose.
Enjoy your reading and writing and thank you for remaining on my mailing list for occasional author updates.
Take care,
Del
